Ian Oakley
Parliamentary Candidate for Watford

Ian Oakley was selected in November 2006 to represent the people of Watford as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate. He was selected by the revolutionary ‘Open Primary’ system which allows every voter in the constituency to have a say in selecting the Conservative candidate. Rather than choosing people behind the scenes, the Open Primary is more honest, open and (most importantly) democratic and we think it helps people to have a greater input in their area.
Before becoming Parliamentary Candidate, Ian had already been the campaign manager for Watford Conservatives. He helped to lead the way to one of the tightest election results in the UK, with only 1,941 votes between Labour’s Claire Ward and the Conservative candidate.
Ian also gets involved in local communities as a borough councillor for nearby Hillingdon.
Before working for the local community Ian was a regulator at the Financial Services Authority where he was responsible for thorough scrutiny of companies to ensure fair practice. Previous to this he studied History at Durham University.
Ian cares passionately about his local area and the people who live here. He says: “people in Watford deserve a place that’s better. They should have proper value for money when they pay their taxes. They should have health services that revolve around them rather than government targets. They should feel safe when they walk the streets – whatever the hour. They should be able to enjoy pleasant and useful public spaces and public facilities. It’s not much to ask in a country like this – so let’s make it happen!”
