It's Official: Herts County Council gives you best value for money!

Conservative run HCC is officially better value for money than your Borough Council, says the Audit Commission.

Despite central government cuts to their grant, HCC has made huge strides and is judged to be "Performing Well":

  • Quality
  • Savings
  • Continued Improvement

Education, Children's services, Fire & Rescue, Social care and the Environment has seen significant progress. They graded Children and Young People, Culture, Fire & Rescue, Value for Money and Social Care - "Performing Well", with Environment, "Performing Strongly".

Watford Borough Council's Audit Commission report reveals that "WBC remains relatively High Cost". Watford's council tax is much higher than any similar Hertfordshire authorities and remains among the top 10 highest charging authorities in the country.

Decades until Lib Dems bring us to the average!

Based on their performance so far Watford's Lib Dem controlled administration will take until 2076 to bring Watford's council tax burden down to the Hertfordshire average. What are the people of Watford getting for all the extra tax they pay?

Don't believe everything you read!

HCC opposition parties proposed a Council Tax increase of 3.5% (in line with the Consumer Price Index). The Lib-Dems, including Watford's Deputy Mayor, wanted to reduce expenditure on road maintenance, despite the ravages of the recent frosts on our roads and the Conservatives success in tackling these problems.

Size really does matter!

Herts County Council made savings last year of £17.4m with a revenue budget of £716m. This saving is more than the whole of Watford Borough's budget of £16.3m.
